Company history

Luke and Earl Blocker (father and son) started Blocker's Hardware in 1939 on Front Street in Catasauqua, PA.  Blocker's has been run as a family owned business selling anything from Texaco gasoline and auto accessories to hardware and bicycle parts as well as toys, including comic books which were sold and/or traded to the neighborhood kids.  Fortunately for Chris Smith, the proprietor since 2000, Luke and Earl saved a bit of everything.  Many of these antique items are on display (and for sale!) in the store.

In 2000 Earl suggested to Vince Smith (Chris's husband) to take over the badly run down business and operate his existing autobody shop out of the old garage behind the hardware store.  The garage was used thirty years ago for minor auto repairs and oil changes. Before that the garage was the carriage house for the Crane Iron Works.

Chris continued to run the hardware store in the tradition of the Blockers.  However, after five years Chris decided to re-invent the store again with a focus on salvage hardware. The store is a wonderful opportunity for Chris to encourage the re-use of our resources and have the enjoyment of buying and selling antiques (a long time hobby).
